Scott Milnamow

Migonis Multisport Athlete Scott MilnamowIn 2006 at age 40, a mere 23 years removed from my last triathlon, I found myself in Green Lakes without a wetsuit in 62 degree water ready to conquer the Sprint Triathlon again. 2 minutes into the race I was looking for a life guard not able to put my face in the water and in a full fledge panic. Within a minute I decided that my 3-4 hours a week of dedicated, hard, “stressful” training was not going to be wasted. I did the side stroke for the balance of the race and was out of the water in a stunning 20 minutes. I finished the race and thought it was my greatest physical achievement of all time. I took almost a full month to recover and was ready to continue my triathlon racing career.

Little did I know that 2006 was the start of my journey.

This journey now has been continuing for over 10 years. Gradually starting with Sprints, to Olympics, half-marathons, to Ironman 70.3. In 2012, Matt and I began our training partnership. The result was completion of my first IM event in Lake Placid. In 2014, I completed my second IM in Lake Placid despite thunder, lightning, and a driving rain for 2 hours and with Matt’s help finished more than an hour faster than my previous finish.

In 2015, I semi-retired from triathlon racing, however as disturbed as it sounds I missed the training and am on target in 2017 to race in a 70.3 event. My initial goals are to survive and finish my races. Despite rotator cuff surgery in the fall of 2016 I still have hopes of finding an age group podium spot in 2017.

Besides training my Matt, my other job is SVP of Real Estate at Raymour & Flanigan Furniture. I am also supported by the best race crew ever, Cyndi my wife of 28 years, daughters Corinne and Noelle. I hope that this journey continues for many years. There is no greater feeling than crossing the finish line being called an Ironman. While this trek may not include any more IM finishes, coming across the finish line at the end of each race is an exhilarating experience that will not be ending anytime soon.
