It was a magnificent weekend of racing for several members of the Migonis Multisport team. Almost every athlete that raced made the overall podium, finished high in their age-group and/or set a new personal best time for the race they were in. In all it was truly a weekend to remember for this amazing team.
On Thursday night Ryan Meek and Jamie Campbell raced in the Syracuse Corporate Triathlon. Ryan had a great race and once again showed his range of ability by finishing third overall in a time of 49:25. Not a bad sprint result seeing how he’s training for an Ironman and doing little to no high intensity training right now. Jamie was right on his heels coming across the line in an age-group winning time of 49:41. Jamie too is training for Ironman Lake Placid and will be toeing the line in just a few short weeks.
On Saturday Brandi Brown used a very well-round race at the Henderson Harbor Triathlon to finish second overall female in a time of 2:33:18. Not too shabby for a woman who is still on the comeback trail after a long time away from the sport. Brandi’s time was good enough for 12th place overall in the race. At the same time that Brandi was racing at Henderson Harbor, Joan Kane was racing in Geneva at the miniMusselman Triathlon. Joan battled hot, humid and windy conditions to take home 5th place in her age-group in a time of 1:37:52. Just a little slower than last year, but considering the conditions Joan’s performance was much more impressive than last year’s race. Honorary team member Alison Migonis also had a heck of day in her first triathlon since September 2012. Alison used a great swim and bike to stay near the front before using a fantastic run to move into first place crossing the line. However, two ladies from other age-groups slipped in with quicker times as the race went on. Alison’s time of 1:21:19 was good enough for 3rd place in the female category.
On Sunday Nick Tucci got his revenge from the bad day he had in Tupper Lake two weeks ago. Nick raced the Musselman aqua-bike and swam his best ever 1.2 mile swim and road an almost identical time to what he was riding in Tupper Lake before his flat tire ended his day early. Nick was third in the 30-34 age-group and 21st overall in a very large aqua-bike field, which saw many athletes joining on race morning. Several individuals switched from the Musselman half-ironman prior to the start of the race due to concerns of the heat.
Also on Sunday Ryan Meek continued his great racing at the Boilermaker 15k Road Race. Ryan flew through the 9.3 miles finishing in a new personal best time of 1:03:10 which put him in 446 place overall and 46th out of 705 in the 35-39 age-group. Also blazing the course at the Boilermaker to the tune of a new best Boilermaker time was Travis Glazier who crossed the line in 1:09:48 which was good enough for 993th place and 104th in the 35-39 age-group. Not bad for a race that saw over 15,000 racers start.
It was a great weekend all-around and one that will surely not be forgotten anytime soon.
