It was an awesome weekend for team Migonis Multisport as six athletes kicked off their 2015 multisport racing campaigns.
On Saturday morning four members of the team raced the Green Lakes Du The Lakes Duathlon which consisted of a 5k run, 20 mile bike and 5k run. Jamie Campbell led the way for Migonis Multisport with a 1st place finish in the male 40-44 age-group finishing in a time of 1:27:13. Teammate Ryan Meek also finished on the podium in the 40-44 age-group with a time of 1:29:50, which was good enough for third. Travis Glazier was the next Migonis Multisport athlete across the line in a time of 1:46:42 which was good enough for 5th in the ultra-competitive 35-39 age-group. The woman’s side of the team was represented by veteran team member Joan Kane who decided to do the race that morning. Joan’s time of 1:54:44 was fast enough for 3rd in her age-group which also meant she was going home with an award. Four athletes raced and three ended-up on the podium in their respective age-groups. If Travis hadn’t had to hold his brake cable in his hand the entire ride to make sure the brake didn’t rub on the wheel, he too may have been in the top three in his age-group. Well done everyone!!!
Later that night Emily Zipprich and Matt Migonis took part in the 1.7 mile run, 10 mile bike, 1.7 mile run, 10 mile bike, 1,7 mile run Fly By Night Duathlon at Watkins Glen International Raceway. Emily and Matt, along with 200+ other racers dealt with very strong, gusty winds and near 90 degree temps during the race. It didn’t seem to faze either of them as Emily came home with a 1st place finish in the woman’s 25-29 age-group finishing in a time of 1:52:32, while Matt used the two fastest bike legs of the day to come home with the overall race win in a time of 1:22:02. Both Emily and Matt agreed that this race is something that any multisport athlete should experience. It was truly a fantastic event to be a part of. Great job Emily and Matt!
Hopefully there will be many more weekends like this in the future for team Migonis Multisport. Great start to the multisport season everyone!
