Some Solid 13.1 Mile Racing

This past weekend saw some great racing for several Migonis Multisport athletes. Ryan Meek, Brandi Brown and Michael Robertson were all in action and all ran very well.

Ryan and Brandi ran at the Syracuse ½ marathon in downtown Syracuse, NY.  Normally a spring race, this version of the event was moved to the fall this year.  While it was still cold at race time on Sunday it was much better than the weather the athletes saw the previous two times they held the race in early spring.  The last time Ryan ran the race he came away with a bad ankle injury and a very discouraging result.  Rather than getting down about it Ryan focused on getting healthy and coming back in the fall for redemption.  Redemption is just what he got blazing the course at a 6:45 mile clip and scoring a new personal best time for the course.  He stopped the clock at 1:28:33 which was also good enough for 5th place in his male 40-44 age-group.  Brandi also raced well finishing in a time of 1:48:47 which is just over 8 minutes per mile and nearly identical to the time she ran in the spring.  Brandi, who races in one of the most competitive age-groups in the race scored a 25th place finish out of 305 women in the age-group.   Great job Ryan and Brandi!

Michael was racing at the Howling Wolf Half-Marathon in Stoneham, MA.  Like Ryan, Michael scored a 5th place finish in his age-group after crossing the line in a time of 1:37:45.  That was also good enough for 21st place overall in the race.  What made this result even more impressive is that Michael didn’t even have this race on the calendar until the day before.  He is training for another 13.1 mile race the first Sunday of December, so this was his last long run of the training.  Not a bad long run.  Well done Michael!
