It was another memorable weekend of racing for several members of the Migonis Multisport team this past weekend. On Saturday eight athletes raced at the Delta Lake Triathlon held at Delta Lake State Park in Rome, NY. The event offered a host of race choices including a sprint triathlon, intermediate triathlon, intermediate triathlon team relay, spint aquabike, intermediate aquabike and Delta Double (competition where you do both the sprint triathlon and intermediate triathlon in the same morning).
The day started off with the sprint distance triathlon and aquabike as well as the first leg of the Delta Double. Beth Lancer came home with the overall title in the aquabike beating the second place athlete by 18 seconds as she crossed the line in a time of 54 minutes and three seconds. It was a last minute decision for Beth to race and we are all glad she did. Travis Glazier and Scott Milnamow raced in the sprint triathlon and came away with some great results. Travis bested his time from last year by seven minutes finishing in a time of 1:08:55. He was 15th overall and 2nd in the tough 35-39 age-group. Scott broke the tape in 1:16:36 which was good enough for 7th in his age-group and just 30 second out of 4th. A great result for him as he’s been battling a shoulder injury all of 2016, which has limited what he could do while training.
Dana Cooreman swam the first leg of a relay in the intermediate distance triathlon. Her team finished 2nd overall in a time of 2:07:12. It was a very fast swim for Dana who is getting ready to race in her second Ironman Lake Placid this coming weekend.
Matt Ryan led the way for the Migonis Multisport team in the intermediate distance triathlon. Matt bested his time on the course by 14 huge minutes on his way to his 5th podium finish of the season. Matt was 12th overall and 1st in the 40-44 age-group finishing in a time of 2:12:18. Joan Kane was next across the line racing to her own age-group win and new personal best time for the Delta course. Joan was the 14th overall women and 1st finisher in her age-group crossing the line in 2:31:48. She just keeps getting faster. Kellie Nasiff was doing her own double for the weekend racing at Delta Lake and in the Gillie Girl Triathlon the next day. Prior to Gillie Girl, Kellie was busy breaking the tape at Delta Lake in a time of 2:33:23 and winning her age-group as well. Three racers and three age-group wins in the intermediate race. Can’t be better than that.
Brandi Brown was the only Migonis Multisport team member to take on the Double Delta. Brandi hasn’t had a chance to race much this year, but she made the most of her opportunity to race twice in one morning. She finished very high up in both races and came away with a 3rd place overall in the Double Delta competition. Something tells me she’ll be back again next year to go for the win.
On Sunday Kellie Nasiff continued her impressive double weekend by racing to an 11th overall and 3rd place age-group performance at the Gillie Girl Triathlon in Camillus, NY. She finished in a time of 1:26:05. Not too far behind Kellie was her sister Nikki Garofalo who had another great short course racing day coming across the line 26th overall and 4th in her age-group. Both of these ladies will be racing at Ironman Tremblant on August 21st.
While most of the team members were racing in central NY, one athlete, Jacqueline Bytnar was defying the odds in the Midwest when she scored a very good time at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Chicago ½ marathon. Jacqueline has had a very up and down training schedule the past few months, but put together a great 5 week span of consistent training heading into the race. That showed on Sunday when she bested her predicted time and finished under 1:50 breaking the tape in 1:49:31 which made her the 411th female out of an amazing 6,480! Well done Jacqueline! Her next ½ marathon is in late September and we are super excited to see what she can do with a few months of consistent training under her legs.
