PR’s, PR’s and Even More PR’s! 1/2 marathons

Migonis Multisport had some more impressive results the past two weekends and there are some new half-marathon personal records (PR’s) for several team members.

The PR’s started way off in Palmer Alaska on March 19th, with Lauren Pfendler breaking the tape at the Green Day Gallop ½ Marathon in a new best time of 1:38:19.  Along with her first time breaking 1:40 for a half-marathon, Lauren also won the overall race in the female division.  Lauren is currently training hard for her first 70.3 triathlon race in early June and seems to be well on her way to a great performance in that event too.  Congratulations on the win and new PR Lauren!

Coach Matt Migonis was also racing on the 19th at the New Bedford ½ Marathon in New Bedford, MA.  Matt ran a very strong 1:15:34 on the day and while it wasn’t a PR for him, it was still a very good time, especially considering the conditions that everyone had to race in.  Well done Coach!

This past Sunday the PR’s really started flowing in.  Six of the eight Migonis Multisport athletes racing the 5th annual Syracuse ½ Marathon came away with new personal best times.  Ryan Meek lead the way with a new PR of 1:29:04, which was also good enough for 5th in his age-group.  This was a final tune-up race for Ryan who will be racing 70.3 Florida on April 9th.  Ryan Elliott was next across the line in 1:34:08 which was also a new PR for him.  Ryan has been racing a lot this late winter/early spring and seems to just keep getting faster while training for his second Ironman Lake Placid event in July.  Travis Glazier made it three for three in the men’s race by also scoring a new ½ marathon best time breaking the tape in a time of 1:42:52.  Travis is also getting ready for some long course triathlon racing this summer and this race marked the second half-marathon he’s done in as many months.  Great job gentlemen and congratulations on your new PR’s.

On the women’s side at the Syracuse ½ Marathon, Kristin Mullally raced her way to a new personal best mark, finishing in a time of 1:45:50 to lead the female contingent of the Migonis Multisport team.  Like Ryan Elliott, Kristin is preparing for a big summer of triathlon racing with Ironman 70.3 Syracuse and Ironman Lake Placid being her two big races of the year.  Brandi Brown was next across the line finishing in a time of 1:48:43.  It wasn’t a lifetime PR for Brandi, but it was a big “post-childbirth” ½ marathon PR.  Brandi too is training towards some 70.3 racing this summer as she hopes to get back to where she was a few years ago, placing very high-up in her age-group in most triathlon events.  The ever impressive Lauren Polak continued to defy logic and once again set a new PR for the half-marathon distance, which is the third half-marathon in a row that she’s done that.  Lauren broke the tape in 1:50:50 which was nearly 7 minutes faster than what she ran at this same race last year when she was just training to be a runner, not a triathlete.  Lauren is preparing for the Musselman triathlon in July.  Erin O’Connor also had a very good day and also set a new PR for the ½ distance when she came across the line in 1:55:39.  Like Lauren, Erin has decided to cross the fence and get into triathlon training and racing as well.  So far so good for Erin.  Nikki Garofalo rounded out the group running 13.1 miles for the first time since November when she raced the NYC Marathon.  Doing this race more for fun and with friends, Nikki crossed the line with a smile and in a time of 2:29:01.  Well done ladies!  You all kicked some serious butt!

These past two weekends are only the start of some busy weekends to come for Migonis Multisport athletes.  April will bring a whole bunch of running and duathlon races and even one ocean swim race in Hawaii. The 2017 racing season officially began back in February, but with all the PR’s set the past two weeks it feels like many athletes are already in mid-season form.  Should be an exciting 2017.
