People often say they could “never” do what I do….they wonder, in awe, how I find the time to workout regularly, often twice a day. They can’t imagine swimming in a lake or running several miles before work…or paying a chunk of money to suffer for hours on end during a race. The thought of starting something new can be overwhelming, but I often find myself telling them they can do whatever they set their mind to. The hardest part is starting.
In 2008, at 37 years old, I started. I started running when I couldn’t even run to the stop sign. I did it….and got better. Then I started to bike, when I was terrified to ride 5 miles, on the road, to my sisters house. But I did it….and got better. I could swim, but barely across the pool before I needed to take a break. But I did it….and got better. I’m just an average age grouper…single mom who has the same time struggles as everyone. But I do what I do, to be healthy, to be a great role model for my girls, to inspire others, to push myself, to feel good, to have fun, to be with my friends, to cheer on my teammates, to compete!
In 2016 I started with Matt & Migonis Multisport. It was a big change from my previous year of racing and coaching and the change definitely paid off! I found myself PR’ing at many of my running events and in the 70.3 triathlon distance…and podiumed at all my Sprint and (my only) Olympic triathlons…I also completed my 2nd full Ironman in Mont Tremblant! It was an amazing year!
In 2017 I plan to take a step back to spend more time with my two girls that are growing up too quickly! My race schedule has dropped to just a few running events and sprint tri’s so I can properly get my oldest ready for college! Although I’m not racing as much as I did in 2016, I’m very excited to see what 2017 brings for myself and my awesome teammates! Migonis Multisport is an amazing group of athletes. I am so proud to be part of this team!
