Matt Toporowski

I’m Matt and 2017 will be my third year competing in triathlon.  Three years ago I left the monotony of lifting weights in a gym behind and began running – literally from that gym home.  I pulled up the Ironman Lake Placid website and signed up!  Ran my first half-marathon that year, began swimming regularly, and bought a tri bike.  Luckily, it all came together (with a lot of help from my friends) and I finished IMLP.  Now I am pushing forward from top 10% or so of my age group (30-34) to the very top in my quest to qualify for the 2017 Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Chattanooga, TN.

I currently live in NYC, which means you can find me cycling up 9W through the beautiful Hudson River Valley, running the Central Park loop with the City lights in the background, or swimming in NYC’s only Olympic size pool – Asphalt Green.  It may seem like a tough place to train, but this City provides constant energy and competition which means nonstop motivation to push harder.

I joined this team because I saw firsthand the results Coach Migonis and his athletes were achieving: they were winning races.  I decided I wanted to race with the best of the best come September in Chattanooga, and I knew Migonis Multisport was the crew to do it with!

A challenge that already took a lot of time to complete has now become an obsession to be the absolute best I can be at it, and then push harder.  Racing in any sport involves focus, determination, strength and requires pain and perseverance.  Most importantly, racing is about possibility.  There’s nothing like racing.
